What is the 0-DTE Academy by Coach Ernie?
Firstly, this is NOT an alerts service. You must be able to dig into an extensive course and learn what is probably a very successful trading strategy.
I signed up for the program because of a positive recommendation from a friend in one of the services I help run (IWM Alerts).
I was expecting an alerts service (I should have checked!). Instead, I found a full detailed video course on how to trade 0-dte OTM Butterflies with various strategies in all market conditions!
Who is Coach Ernie?
Ernie Varitimos has spent the past 25 years coaching and advising hundreds of traders and executives, earning a reputation as a trusted mentor in the financial industry. With a strong foundation in financial technology (fintech), he has led an experimental hedge fund and managed portfolios exceeding nine figures in value.
He runs 0-dte.com which is a GREAT domain name to have if you want to run a service to do with 0-dte options trading!
Previously serving as Chief Technologist at a Fortune 50 company, Ernie was instrumental in pioneering agile business practices and spearheaded the development of financial systems for major Wall Street institutions and global exchanges.
As a quantitative scientist, he specialized in designing algorithmic trading strategies based on options and futures, delivering asymmetric returns for his clients.
His extensive experience has culminated in the creation of his 0-DTE service—a program dedicated to teaching traders advanced same-day options strategies (0DTE) and helping them grow into successful professional traders.

0-DTE Academy Coach Ernie Review: What Will You Learn?
This course is EXTENSIVE.
The 0-DTE Academy offers a foundations video course that, while easy to understand, quickly demonstrates that Ernie, the instructor, has a deep and sophisticated understanding of trading—especially in advanced options strategies.
Although the course jumps straight into managing an out-of-the-money (OTM) butterfly without initially explaining what it is, it becomes clear that it is geared toward those with at least some prior knowledge of options.
The course goes into significant detail about topics like premium decay, setting butterfly width based on volatility and market direction, and using volume profile analysis to pre-select strike levels.
It emphasizes refining entry timing, improving trade consistency, and assessing market conditions to choose among four core strategies: the Classic OTM Butterfly, Big Ass Fly, Batman, and Time Warp.
Ernie explains that trade opportunities appear about 80% of the time, particularly in the mornings when implied volatility is high and certain structural levels are reached.
A notable part of the course is its disciplined approach to risk management—traders are taught to accept a 100% debit loss on losing trades while aiming for a 50% win-rate overall.

Students are taught to use the /ES to set up market profile levels and when price hits one of the entry levels on the /ES you would switch to the SPX at that point and set up your butterfly trade out of the money based on your account size and risk tolerance.

Ernie uses Volume Profile for Support and Resistance
There is a focus on learning Volume Profile for support and resistance levels as Ernie thinks that it is superior to traditional candlesticks because it includes price, time, and volume data directly from exchanges, revealing where markets find value and liquidity.
Candlesticks alone show price and time but not volume at specific price levels.
Support and resistance are best identified through historical volume levels, often remaining significant over many years, contrary to the belief in session-based analysis.
Ernie stresses that in his opinion retail traders’ methods (moving averages, Fibonacci, and trend lines) are not useful for professional trading. Institutional traders focus primarily on volatility and market levels indicated by Volume Profile.
Ernie Teaches Asymmetric Trading with a LOW win-rate
Ernie explains that the strategy thrives not on consistent high win rates, but on exploiting rare, high-impact moves—the “tails” of the return distribution.
These rare events, while infrequent, offer disproportionately large rewards that justify the many small, often breakeven or minor-loss trades.
The key takeaway is that success comes from consistent execution, acceptance of uncertainty, and managing constant change, rather than chasing statistical averages or high-probability setups.
Live Q&A sessions
Twice a week, Coach Ernie hosts live Q&A sessions to break down trades, answer questions, and help you refine your process.

These are very helpful. Ernie answers any questions you might have.
There is a great archive that really helps with what is missed in the main body of the course.

The only issue I have with this is that it’s not exclusive to paying members – it’s available for anyone to watch on his YouTube channel.
In the stream he does give you the daily direction confirmation and ES debit/butterfly width. You can also see his volume node levels.

0-DTE Academy Community
A crucial part of the 0-dte Academy is the community. It is a forum structure with people posting questions and others answering – including Ernie.
They post their own trade ideas and ask for feedback and there are often detailed questions regarding the key topics like volume profile etc.
Does the 0-dte Academy strategy work?
With no long-term track record from Ernie shown it’s impossible to know if this strategy actually yields a positive expectancy over a long time period but it most likely mathematically does – if the student can master and follow the strategy.
I spoke to a subscriber that had done about 30 trades (mostly simulated) and she had found the strategy to be profitable with winners typically around $2500 and losses at about $300.
Some of the trades will require a lot of careful monitoring and adjustments which might be easy to mess up (for me lol).
Losses are small and winners are large, but some people will not be able to stomach losing 50% or even 60% of their trades. However, even if those losses are small – it must be pretty demoralizing even if it does result in positive expectancy. The strategy does seem to leverage directional bias which gives it an edge and uses the market to set strike and width.
The subscribers using the system that I’ve spoken to have been profitable and love the strategy.
Ernie is available in the user forums to answer questions and it is a very helpful community but after completing the course I was left with a feeling of overwhelm and no idea how to actually start trading it.
It might just be a mental block on my part as I spoke to another subscriber that is finding it easy to trade!

0-DTE Academy Coach Ernie Review: Conclusions
If you are prepared to put in the work to learn this strategy it is probably a very good trading plan. It is a steep learning curve in my opinion and to grasp what he does and how to do it took a lot of effort on my part.
I learned how Ernie constructs his Morning Market Analysis by focusing on the three key pillars that drive his trading strategy: volatility, market direction, and market structure. A key insight for me is that he uses butterflies directionally.
At $35/month (you can purchase it here), it’s still an incredible deal considering the volume of content he provides and the value of the potential returns.
Ernie consistently answers questions in the Skool community and during Q&A sessions—taking as much time as needed to ensure complex questions are thoroughly explained and fully understood.
In the end if you are looking to deeply embrace a 0-dte trading strategy that offers winners 5x – 10x the size of losing trades but lose 50% of the time this could well be for you.
